Medical grade silicone rubber is non-porous and ideal for medical use. Non-porous materials are also easy to sterilize and sanitize. Therefore, you must use only medical grade certified silicone to avoid accidents.
Temperature Resistance
The benefits of medical grade silicone go beyond good biocompatibility and zero porosity. Its resistance to thermal changes is also astounding, meaning it can operate in the harshest environments. Additionally, medical-grade silicone can be modified to favor some properties over others. Most medical grade silicones have slightly different material properties.
Resistance To Chemical
Elastomers are usually resistant to mechanical changes. But chemicals can wreak havoc on the molecular structure of elastomers like rubber. Medical grade silica gel is susceptible to some chemical damage, but overall has excellent chemical resistance.
Flexibility
Silicone is the only medical-grade material that is both elastic and flexible. Alternative metals like titanium and stainless steel are very tough and hard, but not flexible. Inflexible (rigid) materials, such as hip replacements, are often the first choice for long-term implants. But for other medical devices, such as surgical tubes, gaskets, and seals, flexible silicone is a better choice.
